Indore, April 01, 2018: A four-storey building near the much crowded Sarwate bus stand in Indore, Madhya Pradesh collapsed on the night of Saturday, 31 March, reportedly killing ten people. Nearly 20 people were feared to be trapped under the debris. Police have reached the spot and rescue work is underway.
According to deputy inspector general of police (DIG) of Indore, Harinarayan Chari Mishra, at least seven people have been rescued from the collapsed building’s debris and have been hospitalised so far, reported The New Indian Express. Three people who have been rescued are said to be in critical condition.
The relief and rescue operation is on in full swing with corporation’s staff, police, fire brigade and ambulances on the spot. Some reports say locals too joined the effort to clear the site and offer medical aid to those injured in the incident.
The incident took place around 9:17 pm on Saturday. Onlookers claim a car hit the dilapidated structure leading to its collapse. Within 20 minutes of the incident, the corporation’s staff reached the spot, reported NDTV.
The building, MS Hotel, which is situated in Chhoti Gwaltoli area, close to Sarvate Bus Stand, housed 25 rooms, reported News 18.
Senior officials and public representatives, including mayor Malini Gaur, BJP MLA Usha Thakur, divisional commissioner Sanjay Dube, the district collector Nishant Warwade, the DIG Harinarayan Chari Mishra and municipal commissioner Manish Singh visited the spot and supervised rescue operations.
