New Delhi, July 18, 2015: The former BCCI president Shashank Manohar has come down heavily on the cricket board and said that nothing has to be examined further and the board has to accept Lodha Committee’s recommendations.
In an exclusive interview to India Today TV, Manohar said, "The BCCI has done nothing to improve its image and now the board has no option but to implement Lodha Committee’s findings."
In his first television interview after five years, the former BCCI president lashed out at N Srinivasan and said that he should have stepped down in 2013 when the spot-fixing scandal broke out in 2013.
"Srinivasan should have stepped down in 2013, no individual is ahead of institution and he too is the root of all scandal and should immediately step down from his position as chairman of ICC," Manohar said.
He slammed the BCCI too for inaction in cleaning up the mess and said the board’s work is now done by the courts. "There has been no action from BCCI to clean the mess and the board’s work is done by the court. BCCI has to be proactive and look at the interest of the institution and not that of an individual in order to re-impose faith in the minds of the people," Manohar added.
When asked about IPL COO Sundar Raman, Manohar said that he ought to step down rightaway for people’s perception to be favourable.
Manohar was in Kolkata to meet the current BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya and has advised the later to be proactive and take strong steps to improve the image of the board.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court-appointed Lodha Committee gave its verdict and suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two years from IPL. Moreover, Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra found guilty of betting have been banned for life from any cricket-related activity.
