BJP Leader from Uttarakhand Found Dead in His Car in Uttar Pradesh

Bareilly, June 15, 2014: A Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Uttarakhand was found dead in his car near Baheri in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Rakesh Rastogi was found with multiple injury marks on his body.

He had reportedly gone missing after he left his house on Friday evening.

"According to the post mortem report, BJP leader Rakesh Kumar Rastogi was strangulated. His body also had several injuries which led to excessive bleeding," circle officer Baheri Kalu Singh said.

He said that police was trying to trace the assailants with the help of call details of Rastogi’s phone and all "suspected" numbers have been put of surveillance.

The circle officer said that the BJP leader’s family members have not lodged an FIR so far stating that they would first cremate him.

J Ravindra Gaud, SSP of Baheri, said, "Rakesh Rastogi’s body was found in Baheri. He had reportedly gone missing a few days back. We have sent the body for a post mortem and the car for evidence collection. We will punish those who have committed this crime."

Rastogi was the divisional vice-president of BJP’s Nainital unit. He is the third BJP leader to be killed in recent weeks in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, BJP leader Vijay Pandit was gunned down in Dadri last week while Muzaffarnagar BJP leader Om Veer Singh was killed by gunmen on Tuesday.

BJP worker Puneet Singhal was shot at in Bulandshahr by unidentified assailants on Wednesday and was critically injured.’
