Kuldeep, the son of BJP leader Ratnaswer Moran and nephew of party lawmaker Bolin Chetia, was kidnapped by ULFA from Arunachal Pradesh on August 1.

In a green T-shirt and surrounded by five masked men who have assault rifles trained on him, Kuldeep begs his parents, uncle and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to free him.

"I have become very weak and my health has also deteriorated," he says. The video has been shot in a forest.

ULFA, notorious for a series of kidnappings and killings in the northeast over the past decades, has put out a ransom video like this possibly for the first time.

Kuldeep’s father and uncle were both in the Congress before they switched to the BJP before state elections earlier this year.

The BJP’s Sonowal won the election and is now heading the party’s first government in the northeast.
