BJP braces to harness ’Brand Modi’ in Karnataka elections

Bengaluru, Dec 22, 2017 : The state BJP is considering a proposal to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi address two to three rallies in each of the seven regions of the state during February-March next year.

The state BJP core committee is meeting on December 26 to chalk out, among others, an action plan to further galvanise the party into poll mode, following the conclusion of its Nava Karnataka Nirmana Parivarthan Yatra next month.

The 80-day yatra led by party state president B S Yeddyurappa, which is visiting each of the 224 Assembly segment in the state, will conclude with a mammoth rally in Bengaluru on January 28 to be addressed by Modi.

The state leaders are keen that post-yatra, as Modi continues to address a series of rallies in the state. Assembly polls in Karnataka are due in April/May. Modi addressed a total of 34 public rallies in his home state of Gujarat after Assembly polls were announced there on October 25.

BJP’s state leaders want to encash on Brand Modi’ early and seek his presence in Karnataka much before the poll dates are announced by the Election Commission of India.

"We will start drawing a detailed action plan on December 26 at the core committee meeting," BJP sources said.

Incidentally, BJP national president Amit Shah plans to make Bengaluru his second home February onwards. Besides drawing up election strategy, he will be virtually taking control of the state unit till the end of the Assembly elections, the sources said.
