Bengaluru, Nov 01, 2023: After reports of a rainfall deficit in Karnataka, the state’s BJP unit has initiated a study of the drought situation, deploying 17 teams for this task. However, Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticised the BJP’s efforts, calling their study of the drought situation as a "farce".
In a statement, the BJP mentioned that it would submit a comprehensive report to the government by November 10, with the process scheduled to begin on November 3.
In response, Siddaramaiah took a swipe at the BJP, saying, "Dear BJP leaders, your very own party’s government has dispatched a team of experts from Delhi to assess the drought situation in Karnataka. Now, you are embarking on a similar tour. Do you not trust your government’s own drought study team?"
Siddaramaiah also mentioned that the state government’s study estimated the loss due to the drought at around Rs 33,770 crore, and they have requested Rs 17,901 crore in relief from the Centre.
Accusing the Centre of not disbursing drought-relief funds to the state, Siddaramaiah recommended that the BJP leaders should direct their efforts toward Delhi rather than touring the state. "You (BJP leaders) should take your 25 Lok Sabha members to Delhi, meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and request the relief funds."
The drought study will involve the participation of BJP leaders in the state, including former Minister CT Ravi, Karnataka BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel, former Minister KS Eshwarappa, and MLA BY Vijayendra.
