BJP orchestrating riots to make Narendra Modi PM: CPM, Karat

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 27: Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat has alleged that communal violence in different parts of the country is a part of an orchestrated campaign to create communal polarisation to help Bharatiya Janata Party and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in the coming elections.

He criticised the policies of UPA and BJP and said that only the CPI (M) and Left democratic parties can bring a change by rallying the secular forces and creating alternative policies while inaugurating the three-day state plenum at Palakkad in Kerala.

 

Karat said CPI (M) workers have to be humble, sincere and dedicated to the people. He urged the party workers to keep away from malpractises, factionalism and other un-communist virtues. He said that after the plenum the party in Kerala will emerge as a strong, more vibrant unit.

He said that the UPA government is associated with high price rise, unemployment and massive corruption while the BJP is trying to project itself as the change in the next Lok Sabha elections but in effect the policies of both are same.

Karat said, "Narendra Modi is projected as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. He is one political leader who has the support of the all the big corporate and business house. The BJP and RSS have decided to promote hardcore communal agenda by projecting Modi as prime ministerial candidate."

He added that the credibility of the Congress is fast eroding among the people and only the CPI (M) or other Left democratic forces have the credibility and the confidence of the people.

The plenum is being held to discuss the organisational issues and to strengthen the party from grass root levels. The move is to strengthen the cadre ahead of the Lok Sabha elections as at present CPI (M) has only four MP’s of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala.

AK Balan, Chairman State Plenum Organising Committee and party secretariat member, said that if party workers are found to be alcoholics, indulging in immoral activities and running shady business strict action will be taken against them. A party worker has to have certain virtues and a common man should be able to distinguish a communist from others, he said.

Balan added that the closeness of the people to certain religious organisations and superstitious beliefs will also be not tolerated.

The plenum is held in the backdrop of CPI (M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan being exonerated in the SNC Lavlin case by the CBI court.

About 400 delegates including six Politburo members and 87 state committee members will attend the plenum. About 2 lakh workers will take part in the public meeting and rally on November 29.
