Bangalore, Sept 6, 2013: All the six convicts in the gangrape case of a Bangalore law student have been given life imprisonment by the trial court on Friday. The Criminal Injuries Board of Karnataka has been asked to compensate the survivor for mental trauma. The order came almost a year after eight men gangraped a student of India’s top Law College, National Law School of India, University (NLSIU) Bangalore.
The seventh accused Raja is still absconding. The eighth accused is a minor and the trial is going on at a Juvenile court in Bangalore. A Nepali national in her early 20s was abducted and raped by a gang of local youth in October 2012. The gang found the survivor in the company of her male college mate at NLSIU in the Bangalore University campus. They attacked her college mate, took the survivor deeper into the heavily wooded campus and took turns to rape her.
Of the total eight accused, seven were held by the police after a big manhunt. The victim left NLSIU and returned to Nepal after the incident. However she came to Bangalore to give all details of the incident to the trial court.

The internationally known evangelist Dr. Billy Graham said " if wealth is lost, nothing is lost; if health is lost, something is lost; if character is lost, everything is lost". Law students became totally characterless animals!. It is very urgent that the parents and the schools-colleges etc will have to focus on the value of character and inject every student from the very early part of life to have character and compassion for other people. Indeed, while reading the daily news, it is very bewildering and wonder " where we are headed"? |
