New Delhi, Mar 18, 2015: The West Bengal government on Wednesday handed the gangrape case of a 71-year-old nun to the CBI. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the case is serious and sensitive and hence she was handing it over to the CBI.
The nun was allegedly gangraped by ‘burglars’ at a convent school in Nadia district’s Ranaghat, the police not only have failed to make any arrests but had to release some of the detainees after they found nothing incriminating against them, a senior police officer informed on Tuesday.
The West Bengal police has detained 10 people so far in connection with this case. The District SP had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh to any individual who would provide credible information leading to the arrest of the accused.
