Bengaluru, Jan 20, 2024: The Crime Branch unit of Bengaluru Police will question Congress MLC BK Hariprasad for his statement that there is a possibility of a ’Godhra-like incident’ in Karnataka ahead of the Ram Mandir consecration in Ayodhya on January 22.

Speaking to reporters earlier this month, Hariprasad had said that the state government should be on alert as a "Godhra-like situation" can be created in Karnataka too.

"As per information from various states, a Godhra-like incident could take place in Karnataka. The government here should provide security to those who travel to Ayodhya," news agency ANI quoted BK Hariprasad as saying.

"The fundamental duty of any government is to protect the lives and property of its people. When you go back to the history of the BJP, when there was Godra and Pulwama, a lot of disturbance and lives were lost. The BJP is a habitual offender and it can do anything. In Ayodhya, it is not a religious programme but a political program. CMs of MP, Rajasthan are ’kar sewaks’. This is my personal statement, not the party’s," the MLC added.

The Bengaluru Police’s decision to question the senior Congress leader comes after the Governor sent a letter to the Director General of Police (DGP), seeking clarification on Hariprasad’s statement.

The questioning is aimed at understanding the context and the basis on which Hariprasad made the controversial remark.

However, when approached by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) from the Crime Branch, Hariprasad reportedly declined to provide a statement.

"They came to question me today at Kumara Krupa guest house. I told them to come with a notice and follow due procedures," Hariprasad said.
