Bengaluru, Sep 30, 2017: When rains hit Bengaluru, potholes become a prominent phenomenon.

The government has failed to keep its promises and the city still trips on countless potholes on several roads.

When the roads were checked, it was revealed that several places where the potholes had formed have now deep holes which look like craters.

This gives birth to a question.

What happened to funds worth crores which were spent on a specialised machine -- Python --  which enables filling and repairing of potholes in the 384 km stretch including arterial roads in Bengaluru?

The return of potholes rendered by incessant and heavy rains indicates the low quality of the work carried out by authorities. The situation deteriorates during the monsoon season.

Bannerughatta Road, Mysuru Road and Kanakapura Road are a few roads which have taken the hit of the heavy rains.

Bengaluru Urban Minister KJ George said, "State government has given almost Rs 7,300 crore for 2016-17 and 17-18. Another Rs 3,000 crore will also be given. The Rs 7,000 crore is for all works and not just roads."

Upon talking with several people in Bengaluru, it became clear that the government is up to nothing that might solve the problem.

"I feel the CM should step out and see the situation himself. I remember when the CM had visited our area, the potholes were filled to hide the shabby work of the contractors," said Aniket, a resident of Pai Layout in Bengaluru.

Visiting past it becomes evident that the civic authorities start working when the monsoon is just around the corner. The rains send the repair work down the drain.

"Potholes can be blamed for claiming lives of my loved ones. I lost a friend to a pothole when he was on a road. We pay taxes and that’s not what we deserve in return," said Abhishek, a local resident.
