Bengaluru woman arrested for plotting robbery at her own house

Nov 06, 2015: A woman has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly plotting a recent robbery of Rs 1.2 crore at her own house in South Bengaluru. The woman identified as Shruthi Ramachandra, 31, a resident of JP Nagar allegedly gave a spare key to her house to a friend Kumar alias Kumar Gowda, 31, and took her realtor husband on a pilgrimage to enable Gowda to rob the house, police investigations have found.

The friend who robbed the house has also been arrested. According to the police, the woman as part of the plan took her husband A Ramachandra for a trip to Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada and other places on October 30 and returned home on November 1.

Ramachandra approached the JP Nagar police and filed a complaint about the incident stating that Rs 1.3 crore belonging to his friend C Muniraju a realtor was stolen. Following suspicion over possible involvement of Ramachandra’s wife Shruthi in the case, the police took her into custody for questioning where she reportedly confessed that her friend Kumar Gowda had stolen the money. Police said that Shruthi told Kumar Gowda about the money in her residence and handed a duplicate key of the house to him. Kumar entered the house on the night of October 31 and fled with the Rs 1.2 crore in cash.

Police investigations have revealed that the two accused were classmates in high school. They met up again around six months ago and struck up the plan to rob Shruthi’s husband. “They were planning to share the money between them. Shruthi wanted to lead a lavish life and Kumar wanted to clear all his loans after suffering losses in his real estate business,” the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South division) Lokesh Kumar said. “We have arrested Kumar and Shruthi and have recovered Rs 1.06 crore in cash, a car and tools, which were used to commit the offense,” Lokesh Kumar said.
