Though the police initially slapped abduction charges against Das, based on a complaint lodged by Bankura resident Shibendra Sharma father of Das’s live-in partner Akansha, on Saturday the cops slapped fresh charges of murder (section 302 of IPC) and destruction of evidence (section 201 of IPC).

Dressed in a white T-shirt, white trousers and a black blazer, Das, 32, remained nonchalant and showed no signs of any remorse during the brief 10-minute hearing. He was constantly grooming his hair in the court.

Das was represented by two lawyers. His counsel Arup Banerjee told the court that as the bodies have already been recovered and police has already interrogated Das in Bhopal, he should be released on bail.

Dutta, however, demanded a police custody as further interrogation of the accused could bring out more mysteries and help investigators solve the crime.
