Both accused in Russian girl rape case arrested.

Mangalore Today

Goa rapistPanaji, Jan.29: Cracking the Russian girl rape case in three days, Goa police arrested the main accused Aman Bharadwaj in Mumbai hours after his co-worker, who has also been named, was nabbed.

In a breakthrough for the state police, Aman, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was picked up in Chembur in Mumbai.

Announcing the arrest, Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravindra Yadav said Aman is being brought to Goa.

Both Aman and Anil Raghuvanshi, who was arrested earlier in the day from Panaji bus stand, were on the run since yesterday after the mother of the nine-year-old Russian girl gave clues on the identity of the two accused.

The two young men were working as assistant machine operators in a pharmaceutical firm at Dhargal industrial estate in North Goa.

The Russian woman had complained that Aman raped her daughter at Arambol beach in North Goa about 45 km from here, between 5.30 pm. to 6 pm on January 26 while Anil engaged her in a conversation at a nearby spot apparently to distract her attention.
Police said that a proper investigation in this case will establish whether both of them were involved in the crime or Aman is the sole accused.

Goa Chief Minister and Congress leader Digamber Kamat, who came under pressure from coalition partner NCP following the incident, said he was personally monitoring the police investigations.

We Indians are known for our hospitality and such incidents will tarnish the image of our country so it is necessary that the culprits are punished severely and tourists are treated respectfully.
