Bangalore, July 20, 2014: By-elections for filling vacancies in the Legislative Assemblies of four states, including Karnataka, will be held on August 21, the Election Commission announced on Saturday.
The counting of votes will be held on August 25. The last date for filing nominations by candidates is August 2 while their scrutiny will be done on August 4. The commission, which will issue poll notification on July 26, has fixed August 6 as the last date for withdrawal of candidature.
Along with three seats in Karnataka, bypolls will be held for 10 vacant seats in the Legislative Assembly of Bihar, three in Madhya Pradesh and two in Punjab on August 21.
“The model code of conduct shall come into force with immediate effect in the districts which form part or whole of the Assembly constituency that is going for by-election,” the poll panel said. The EC said the model code of conduct will be applicable to all the candidates.
Chikkodi-Sadalga, Bellary and Shikaripura Assembly seats became vacant in Karnataka after sitting MLAs Prakash Hukkeri, B Sriramulu and B S Yeddyurappa were elected to the 16th Lok Sabha in the parliamentary elections this year.
