New Delhi, Nov 7: Polling for one Lok Sabha and 31 assembly seats in seven states started peacefully on Saturday morning amid tight security.
In Uttar Pradesh, a total of 177 candidates are in the fray for 12 seats. In West Bengal voting is held in 10 assembly constituencies, while two constituencies each in Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh are facing elections today.
The high profile electoral battle is in Firozabad LS constituency where actor turned politician Raj Babbar of the Congress is battling it out with Dimple, the daughter of in-law of Samajwadi Party Presient Mulayam Singh Yadav.
In West Bengal, the CPI-M and Trinamool are contesting in five and seven seats respectively.
Central police force personnel have been deployed in all the places where elections are held. As many as 1900 polling booths have been identified as critical in Uttar Pradesh alone. Micro observors have been deployed in these places apart from installing closed circuit cameras.
