Kerala, Jul 11, 2018 : Communist Party of India (Marxist) and its government in Kerala led by Pinarayi Vijayan have stepped up its political offensive against Islamic radical organisations operating in the state.
The CPI (M) state leadership has decided to identify leaders in the party who sponsor Islamic radical groups including Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and its group organisations and seek their support.
Meanwhile, Kerala Police was directed to take firm action against SDPI and Popular Front of India activists who plotted killing of tribal student and Student Federation of India leader Abimanu.
Abimanu, 19, was brutally killed inside Maharaja’s College campus in Ernakulam on July 2.
CPIM launched political campaign in 200 centers in the state against SDPI and its terror orientation in the state. The campaign is followed by house visits alerting families to keep vigil against Popular Front of India and its terror designs.
"SDPI affiliated to Popular Front of India is a terror outfit engaged in divisive tactics and a threat to Kerala’s secular society. We will fight out them politically," CPIM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnanan told India Today.
Earlier Elamaram Kareem, Member of Rajya Sabha and Central Committee member of the CPIM, came forward with listing out brutal killings engineered by Popular Front of India and affiliated organizations. In his article titled "PFI- an enemy of Muslims" published in leading dailies of Kerala, Kareem alleged that PFI had killed 39 persons during 1995 to 2018 including nine RSS workers in Marad in Kozhikode.
CPIM offensive against Popular Front of India and its affiliated organisations have shaken the radical groups in Kerala which thrived with government’s patronage in the past.
Kerala ruling governments had taken a lenient view towards Popular Front of India due to vote bank politics and their strategic positioning of playing a victim card as Minorities and Muslims. "CPIM offensive against PFI is a late turn up. It has no political consistency as CPIM colluded with PFI in Malappuram district to defeat Indian Union Muslim League," Dr. M.K. Muneer of IUML told India Today.
However, senior CPIM leader told India Today that the party has always taken a firm stand against PFI and its affiliated organisations from the very beginning. "They (PFI) has infiltrated in all parties with a mission and executed their agendas. Now we are scrutinizing their presence in our party at various levels and warned all party members their association with radical sponsors will be monitored and treated as an anti-party activity," the CPIM leader said.
PFI has been operating in the state by sponsoring criminal mafia and had infiltrated into various political parties including CPIM, Congress and IUML for political cover .
The brutal killing of Abimanu in college campus exposed their operation channel.
Kerala Police has detained around 500 persons involved in various crime activities after the killing and raided around 400 premises. The raids and arrests revealed that the radical groups under the shelter of SDPI were involved in money laundering, hawala operations, real estate mafia and blackmail.
CPIM offensive against PFI affiliated organisations is going to put them in serious problem and PFI has offered to surrender few people involved with Abimannu murder in Ernakulam and negotiating for truce. "So far the police has not responded to their offer and planning to arrest the main culprits executed the murder," a senior police official in Kochi told India Today.
