May 21, 2014: In a press statement, CBCI - ’The Catholic Bishops Conference of India’, the apex body of Roman Catholic Bishops of India, cordially congratulated the NDA - National Democratic Alliance led by the BJP for winning a landslide victory in the recent Parliamentary elections. It is said,the CBCI hoped the New government will uphold universal values and seculararism in building a great nation.
Cardinal Baselios Cleemis, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), said in a statement, “ May the new government led by BJP empower the India of Mahatma Gandhi stand tall among the world nations ensuring protection, security, welfare and sustained development of the people of all sections.” he also mentioned that he greatly hoped the new Govt. will as in the past maintain eternal values, secularism and principles of democracy leading our great nation India on the path to legitimate development.
The Roman Catholic body advised Congress party to learn from experience and perform as a creative force, knowing the pulse of the public. Reiterating the Catholic Church’s support to the government’s activities in the process of nation building, Card.Cleemis stressed, the new Government has the responsibility to ensure the security of the minorities and to show special consideration towards the weaker sections of the country.
