Caught on CCTV: CPM leader robbing NRI businessman’s home

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 02, 2016: Visuals of a Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader in Kerala carrying out a robbery went viral on Wednesday after police released security footage from the house he targeted.


CPM leader.Identified as Raghavan, a popular leader in North Kerala’s Kasargode district, the CPI(M) party member was expelled with immediate effect after police announced the shocking discovery. He has has been missing since the video went viral.

According to the police, the accused tried to burgle the house of a businessman, one Mohamed Younus who lives in the UAE with his family. Neighbours who noticed something amiss alerted Younus’ relatives, who in turn notified the police.

Police were able to identify Raghavan based on the security footage. He was seen walking around the house, wielding an iron rod and carrying a bag. Dressed in a white dhoti and shirt, he is believed to have broken into the house late on Monday night.

Police are yet to ascertain what items were robbed. “We have registered a case and are looking for Raghavan who is absconding now,” said a police officer of Kasargode.

Kerala is home to many empty luxury homes belonging to NRIs and businessmen who live abroad. With these properties becoming a soft target for burglars, police had asked owners to install security cameras on the property. Notorious criminal Bunty Chor was in fact chased down after security cameras caught him breaking into a posh house in Thiruvananthapuram in 2013.
