Hassan, Mar 29, 2018 : Against the backdrop of Tamil Nadu’s All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party’s demand in the Lok Sabha for the creation of a Cauvery River Water Management Board, JD(S) supremo and MP H D Deve Gowda asked party rank and file to maintain calm and not indulge in violence.
"The centre has stated that it is difficult to establish the board at such short notice. And yet our TN friends have taken up the fight for it. One MP has even threatened to commit suicide if the Supreme Court order is not adhered to. It is wrong of any state to be adamant like this. Whatever your differences are, get them resolved peacefully," he advised party workers.
He suggested that the union water resource minister call a meeting of all the four states involved in river disputes, study the real situation with experts and implement measures. "We can analyse the results of such measures after five years and take a final call afterwards," Gowda added.
’Secular parties unite’
Gowda said that many leaders were talking of secular parties of Karnataka uniting for the elections. "At present, I am not joining any coalition and I won’t comment on it till the Assembly elections are over," he added.
"The two national parties have caused enough damage to the state. I have to fight against them now," Gowda asserted adding that BSP leader Mayawati would visit three places in the state for rallies in Mumbai-Karnataka, Hyderabad-Karnataka and Old Mysuru regions.
The party supremo also announced that a major party convention will be held on April 2 and one lakh people are expected to attend it.
