New Delhi, Oct 28, 2013: An Indian Army officer was killed on Monday when Pakistan once again violated the ceasefire and fired at Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector.
A Junior Commission Officer (JCO) was killed in the firing at a post on the LoC while another officer was reportedly injured.
The recent offensive took place even as a flag meeting between the two countries is expected to take place today in a bid to defuse tension on the border.
The BSF had earlier tried to hold a flag meeting on October 18 and October 20 with Pakistani rangers. However, the Pakistani officials did not turn up for the meeting.
Regular firing and shelling have been taking place along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) forcing villagers to flee the area.
The firing took place after a quite Sunday when no reports of shooting or shelling across the border. Over 130 ceasefire violations have been reported so far this year, the highest in the past eight years
