New Delhi, Nov 17, 2022: The Centre on Thursday moved the Supreme Court against the release of six convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. The government has sought a review of the order granting remission to the six convicts.

The Centre said that the Supreme Court order in the case is "legally flawed" and has sought permission from the court to argue against the release of six convicts- Murugan, Santhan, Robert Payas, Nalini and Jayakumar.

Last week, the Supreme Court had ordered the release of all six convicts who were serving life imprisonment in connection with the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

All convicts were to be released from jail if not needed in any other case, the court had said while hearing the plea filed by the prime accused named in the case, who were present at the site of the bombing attack which killed Rajiv Gandhi and 21 others.
