Bangalore, Oct 16: A chargesheet has been filed by the CBI against BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa in a court in Bangalore today.
Mr Yeddyurappa has been accused along with his sons of releasing land in Bangalore reserved for public projects to steel giant JSW, controlled by billionaire Sajjan Jindal.
Mr Yeddyurappa was forced to quit as chief minister of Karnataka by his party in 2009 after he was indicted in a report on illegal mining. A string of other cases accuse him of land scams and corruption.
The 69-year-old, who is a heavyweight in the powerful votebank of the Lingayat community, has been aggressively demanding a larger role within the BJP in Karnataka. The party’s central leadership has not acquiesced, mainly because rehabilitating Mr Yeddyurappa would undermine its concerted campaign against the union government, which it has accused of relentless graft.
Mr Yeddyurappa has indicated that he will form his own political party in December, ahead of the elections in Karnataka, expected early next year.
