Hyderabad, Jan 14, 2023: A food delivery agent in Hyderabad was critically injured after he jumped off the third floor of a building after being chased by a ferocious pet dog. The incident happened when 23-year-old Mohammed Rizwan, who works with food delivery app Swiggy, had gone to an apartment building in Banjara Hills to deliver a parcel.
Rizwan had gone to the third floor of Lumbini Rock Castle Apartments in Banjara Hills to deliver a food parcel to K Shobhana, police said. When he knocked at the door of the flat, the customer’s pet dog, German Shepherd, barked at him and lunged at the door.
"An 11-year-old German Shepherd ran towards the door barking as soon as it was opened. I got scared and as I ran back, the dog followed me. I jumped from the building out of fear without thinking," Rizwan was quoted by TOI as saying.
He was immediately rushed to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and his condition is critical. Flat owner Shobhana called an ambulance and got him shifted to the hospital.
“As Rizwan was handing over the parcel to the customer, the pet dog of her family, a German Shepherd, rushed out of the house and pounced on him. Out of fear of being attacked, Rizwan made an attempt to escape by running for safety. But the dog chased him and he jumped from the third floor of the building,” Banjara Hills inspector of police M Narender told Hindustan Times.
Rizwan’s brother, Mohammed Khaja, lodged a complaint with Banjara Hills police on Thursday night and sought action. The Banjara Hills police booked a case under Section 336 (causing injuries due to negligence) against Shobhana. The case is under investigation.
