Chennai, Jun 16, 2021: The Vandalur Zoo on Wednesday lost another lioness Kavitha due to COVID-19. Sources confirmed to The New Indian Express that 23-year-old Kavitha, who was responding slowly to treatment, succumbed to the disease on Wednesday morning.
The health condition of the lioness worsened after being infected by the virus. The last update from the zoo authorities said that she was not taking solid food and was put on a liquid diet. Symptomatic and therapeutic treatment were being given.
A press release on Monday had said: "Of the fourteen lions presently available with the Zoo, 3 lions are responding to the treatment very slowly. However, all endeavours are being made by the team of zoo veterinarians in coordination with the experts of TANUVAS to ensure that they recover."
All the lions which have tested positive were under close observation and on a prescribed treatment regimen by the in-house veterinary team in close co-ordination with the expert team from TANUVAS.
