Coimbatore, Aug 02, 2023: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested one more person in connection to the car bomb blast that occurred in Coimbatore on October 23, 2022. The blast, which took place near a temple, resulted in the death of Jamesha Mubeen, the alleged mastermind behind the terror attack.

The NIA team has now arrested Mohammed Idris, a 25-year-old individual closely associated with Jamesha Mubeen.

Following an extensive investigation and gathering of evidence, the Tamil Nadu police earlier arrested seven people and subsequently handed over the case to the NIA. This ultimately led to the arrest of a total of 11 individuals. Idris was apprehended based on information obtained during the inquiry with these 11 suspects.

Further investigations by NIA teams have unveiled that Jamesha Mubeen’s cousin, Mohammed Azharuddin, assisted him in procuring the necessary components for constructing the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

It has also been revealed that there may have been plans to carry out attacks at multiple locations the day before Diwali, with the aim of destabilising the state.

Sources have stated that Jamesha Mubeen perished as the bomb detonated prematurely, preventing him from reaching a safe location. The autopsy report confirms that his death was caused by a nail which acted as shrapnel and pierced his heart.

Additionally, the NIA has chosen to acquire call data from Mohammed Idris for the past three years, suspecting potential connections with international terrorist networks.
