Mandya, Aug 25, 2024: Karnataka Congress MLA Ravikumar Gowda has made a serious allegation against the BJP, claiming that the party is intensifying its efforts to undermine the Siddaramaiah-led government by increasing its offer to ₹100 crore in what he describes as a renewed ’Operation Kamala.’
Gowda, representing Mandya in the Karnataka Assembly, alleges that this operation is designed to lure Congress legislators away from their party, thereby destabilizing the current government. The term ’Operation Kamala’ reportedly refers to the BJP’s strategy of engineering defections among opposition legislators to enhance its political influence and control over state governments.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Gowda revealed that the BJP has allegedly raised its offer from ₹50 crore to ₹100 crore, aiming to entice 50 MLAs. He recounted a recent phone call in which he was informed of the increased offer and said he suggested to the caller to keep the money and consider reporting the incident to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Gowda further accused senior BJP leaders, including National General Secretary B.L. Santhosh, Union Ministers Shobha Karandlaje and Pralhad Joshi, and H.D. Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (Secular), of conspiring to destabilize the Congress government in Karnataka. Despite these alleged attempts, Gowda asserted that the Congress government remains robust and stable, with no MLAs yielding to the BJP’s inducements.
