Bengaluru, April 11, 2025: The D K Shivakumar-led Karnataka Congress will stage a protest against the union government over price rise on April 17.
Announcing this, Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president D K Shivakumar said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala would also participate in it.
Taunting the BJP, he urged the state unit of the party to continue its ‘Janakrosha’ march by channeling it towards its own government at the Centre.
“The BJP’s yatra is actually against the central government. Ask the common people what they have to say about their policies. This protest has nothing to do against us. We have earmarked Rs 52,000 crore in the Budget to help the people battered by price rise.”
Comparing the prices of several commodities as it stood during the UPA regime and the current rates, Shivakumar said: “Gold rates have increased from Rs 28,000 to Rs 92,000. A dollar which used to cost Rs 59 now costs Rs 86. Normal mobile phones that used to cost Rs 10,000 have gone up to Rs 36,000. A 32-inch TV costing Rs 13,000 is now Rs 36,000.”
The KPCC president also pointed out that the cost of refrigerators, air conditioners (ACs) and several car brands had also increased substantially.
Defending the increase in milk prices by Rs 4 per litre, the deputy chief minister pointed out that the cost of milk in Karnataka was still lower than the corresponding prices in states like Kerala, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and so on.
