New Delhi, Aug 01, 2020: Coronavirus cases in India mounted to 16,95,988 on Saturday (August 1), recording the highest single-day spike of 7,117 positive cases & 764 deaths in India in the last 24 hours.
The active cases in India stand at 5,65,103, whereas 10,94,374 are cured/discharged. The total death toll in the country is at 36,511 as per the Health Ministry.
This was the third consecutive day that COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 50,000 and the second day when India recorded more than 55,000 cases.
The recovery rate rose to 64.54 percent while the fatality rate dropped further to 2.18 percent. The positivity rate stands at 8.57 percent.
Maharashtra remains to be the worst-hit state and has 4,11,798 total cases, including 2,48,615 recovered cases and 1,48,150 active cases. It is followed by Tamil Nadu, which has 2,39,978 cases and then Delhi, which logged 1,34,403 cases.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative 1,88,32,970 samples have been tested up to July 30 with 6,42,588 being examined on Thursday.
