Bangalore: The last day of campaigning for the BBMP polls saw hectic electioneering with political bigwigs leading the show.
CM BS Yeddyurappa, state BJP president KS Eshwarappa and former legislator V Somanna took to the streets and visited eight assembly constituencies.
Continuing with the government’s ‘development mantra,’ the CM made many promises.
“We will ensure that by 2012, every house in the city receives 24 hours uninterrupted power supply,” the CM said, adding that tenders for the power plant will be complete within six months.
He also promised Cauvery water to the entire city with the completion of Phase 4 of the current project in 2012.
Yeddyurappa said he has written to the Union Railway minister Mamata Banerjee on starting new railways lines to ease traffic in the city and also starting intercity lines. He said his government has offered to pay half the cost for new rail lines.
“We will make Karnataka a slum-free state,” Yeddyurappa said. He said he would ensure projects started under the Vajpayee Vasant Yojana be beneficial for slumdwellers.
“There will be four speciality hospitals in four parts of the city and also four parks like Lalbagh and Cubbon park.” Taking a dig at opposition parties, he said the corporation and the state was present for decades but had no progress to show for.
Attempting poetry, the CM said that if it is true that there is a ‘sun and a moon,’ the polls will ensure that both the mayor and the deputy mayor too are from the BJP.
“We are making all efforts to develop Bangalore to ensure the city sees progress and the CM has made considerable contributions,” Eswarappa said. Last year, the CM allotted Rs 2,500 crores for the city’s development, this year he has hiked it to Rs 3,500 crores, he added.
The CM, who kept saying the BJP would win 110-120 seats, raised it to 120-125, after the response in the wards.
