Cyclone Hudhud loses speed; kills 5 in Andhra, Odisha

Vishakapatnam, Oct 12: Cyclone Hudhud, which made a landfall in Andhra Pradesh this noon, lost its intensity by evening as it moved further 60 km northwest of Visakhapatnam, the IMD said.

 

7.30 pm: Hudhud loses intensity, says IMD


Hudhud, which was so far a very severe cyclonic storm has now converted into a severe cyclone. Its speed is now limited to 100-110 kmph, said M Mahapatra, scientist at the Cyclone Warning Division of IMD.

The Prime Minister, who had on Saturday held an emergency high-level meeting to review preparedness for the cyclone, spoke to Naidu and discussed relief and rescue measures.

04:00 pm: 90,000 people moved to relief camps in four districts

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa said on Sunday said that nearly 90,000 people have been shifted to relief camps in four cyclone Hudhud-hit districts.

Chinarajappa, from the cyclone control room set up at the Kakinada collectorate said that so far, 90,000 people from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and East Godavari districts have been moved to relief camps.
