Benagluru, Nov 07, 2017 : Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar was among 15 persons who appeared before Income Tax officials on Monday after being served notice to respond to questions on alleged undisclosed wealth.
The officials, who searched over 60 premises belonging to Mr. Shivakumar, his relatives and aides on August 2, issued notice to 15 persons to provide statements on the wealth unearthed during those operations. Incidentally, the search was launched when the Minister was hosting around 40 Congress legislators from Gujarat, fearing defection ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in which Congress leader Ahmed Patel was contesting.
At the end of the nearly 78-hour search, the sleuths claimed to have unearthed around ₹300 crore in undisclosed income from the Minister, his family and aides, including some businessmen.
According to sources, on Monday the Minister was appearing before I-T officials for the seventh time after the search and seizure operations. Those who appeared before the sleuths included Mr. Shivakumar’s daughter, mother and wife. Other relatives of the Minister and MLC Ravi also appeared to give their statements. Sources said the questioning went on for about two hours and they all signed on statements before leaving.
Speaking to reporters after the questioning, Mr. Shivakumar said he would appear for questioning again on Tuesday. “Officials took separate statements from all of us and sought clarifications on certain doubts they had. We were questioned for nearly two and a half hours, and we cooperated with the officials,” he said.
