Daily Covid-19 cases dip in India, 1,247 new infections in 24 hours

New Delhi, April 19, 2022: India registered a sharp drop in daily Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. While 2,183 fresh infections were reported in the country in 24 hours on Monday, Tuesday saw 1,247 new cases and one Covid-19 death. A total of 4,01,909 tests were conducted in the same period.

The daily positivity rate is 0.31 per cent and the weekly positivity rate 0.34 per cent at present.

As of 8 am on Tuesday, there are 11,860 active cases in India.

Meanwhile, India’s cumulative Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 186.72 crore.

On Monday, India reported had 2,183 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, This is nearly twice the figure that was reported on Sunday, when 1,150 new infections were registered in 24 hours.

India also recorded 214 deaths in 24 hours on Monday. Even though the number included a backlog of 62 deaths from Kerala, this marked a sharp increase from the four Covid deaths that were reported in the country on Sunday.

Even with a spike in cases, IIT Kanpur professor Manindra Agrawal told India Today on Monday that a fourth wave of Covid is unlikely in India as there are no new mutants that have come to the notice of the officials.
