The accused, identified as Farookh, was arrested on charges of killing the 16-year-old Mohammad Faizan, police said, while adding that a dagger used to commit the crime was recovered.

The incident took place in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar on Tuesday morning when the victim, his father and brother were stacking bricks outside a shop.

An argument broke out between two groups after a brick fell on an egg tray kept outside the shop, owned by Taj Mohammad.

Things, however, calmed down for some time as the teen’s father assured compensation. A little later, the shopkeeper’s son started fighting again with the teenager’s brother.

The victim tried to pull his brother away which infuriated the shopkeeper’s son. He took out a dagger and stabbed the teenager in front of his family, police said.

Shocked, his family and others tried to catch the accused, but he fled the spot. They rushed the teenager with multiple stab wounds to a nearby hospital. He was, however, declared brought dead.

The police were informed and based on the statement of brother of the teenager, a case was registered.

Mohammad Jamil told police that an argument started at around 9.30 am on the morning of August 18 over broken eggs. “We were able to calm things, but after some time, the son of the shopkeeper started a fight again,” Jamil told police.

Police went through the CCTV footage from the area. Though it was not completely clear, the accused could be een repeatedly stabbing the teen and then running away.

During investigation, police scanned the CCTV footage of the Sangam Vihar and Devli area and arrested the accused. Police also recovered the blood-stained dagger, the weapon of offence.

During interrogation, police said the accused admitted to have attacked the teen after a fight over broken eggs.
