New Delhi, Nov 01, 2017 : A 50-year-old Delhi Police sub-inspector allegedly committed suicide by throwing himself in front of a moving Metro train at Uttam Nagar West Metro station on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place at 11.14am at platform number 1. The train under which sub-inspector Hans Ram Barala was crushed was headed towards Noida from Dwarka on the Blue Line, CISF officials said.
Ajay Chaudhary, joint commissioner of police (New Delhi), said a suicide note was recovered from the sub-inspector’s possession. The note said he was depressed due to a prolonged illness and was taking the extreme step on his own. Barala was posted in the security wing of the Delhi Police.
“We are collecting details about the possible reasons behind the sub-inspector’s extreme step,” Chaudhary said.
A CISF official said the incident was captured on one of the CCTV cameras at the platform. As passengers raised an alarm, the station incharge and controller reached the platform and pulled out the sub-inspector’s body from under the train.
“The victim was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital where he was declared brought dead,” a Delhi Metro police officer said adding that the sub-inspector’s family had been informed about the incident.
