Delhi Woman Left To Die As Car After Car Runs Over Her

Mangalore Today News Network 12:30:00

New Delhi, May 31:  A woman’s  lifeless body lay in a pool of blood as car after car ran over her on the Rajouri Garden flyover on Ring Road in west Delhi late on Saturday night. Not a single vehicle cared to stop to check if the woman was still alive, reports Times of India.

Accident

Nor did any one bother to move the body to the side of the road. Delhi was doing its best to live up to the tag of a heartless city, the report said.  When a police team finally reached the spot, after about 3-4 hours, her body was mutilated and her face crushed beyond recognition.

The police said the victim appeared to be around 35-years and was wearing a salwar suit. There were no identification documents on her.

“We suspect that she was knocked down on the Rajouri Garden flyover by a car during peak traffic. It appears that several vehicles ran over her after that. We found the body on the flyover that is going from Rajouri Garden to Mayapuri,” said a senior police officer.

The police ruled out the possibility of the woman being killed somewhere else and then dumped on the road. “The traffic volume on the flyover is so high that it is not possible to stop a car and then throw the body,” said the police officer.

The body has been kept at Deen Dayal Upadhayay mortuary where a postmortem will be conducted on Tuesday. “We have issued an all-India alert. We have also told our missing persons department to let us know if they receive any missing woman complaint. So far we have not got any news from them. We will wait for 72 hours before conducting the postmortem,” said the officer.

The police, however, did not rule out the possibility of sexual assault, but said it would be too early to reach to such a conclusion.

“We will know for sure what happened once the postmortem is done. But for that, we have to wait till Tuesday. Hopefully, by then we will be able to establish the identify the woman,” said the deputy commissioner of police (west), Sharad Aggarwal.

This is not the first time such an incident has been reported in the capital.

In April, an elderly man on a morning walk was run over by a speeding BMW in east Delhi. The family of the deceased, Om Dutt, had alleged that no one, including the police, had come forward to rescue the old man even as he bled to death.
