Delhi airport turns into swimming pool as city records highest rainfall in 46 years

New Delhi, Sep 11, 2021: Following heavy rainfall in the national capital on Saturday morning, the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi witnessed flooding at the forecourt and in some other areas.

According to the authorities, the water has now been drained out and it is all clear.

In a tweet, the Delhi Airport said, "Due to sudden heavy rain, for a short period, there was waterlogging at the forecourt. Our team was immediately aligned to look into it and the issue has been resolved."

 


Five flights were diverted from the airport due to the bad weather conditions. The details of the same are as follows,

Three Indigo flights were cancelled on Saturday due to the weather conditions in Delhi. The details of the flights are,

According to the Safdarjung observatory, Delhi recorded 94.7 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am on Friday and 8.30 am on Saturday. As a result of the heavy rains on Saturday morning, several roads in the city were waterlogged.

 


The Safdarjung observatory has now recorded a total of 1,100 mm of rainfall this monsoon season in the national capital. Before this, in 2003, Delhi had recorded total rainfall of 1,050 mm during the monsoon season.

With this, the 2021 monsoons have witnessed the highest rainfall Delhi has seen since 1975 when a total of 1,150 mm of rainfall was recorded. Thus, Delhi’s 2021 monsoon rainfall is the highest in 46 years! And the monsoon is not even over yet.
