Bengaluru, Mar 23, 2024: Janata Dal (Secular) will be contesting three seats in Karnataka in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna has said.
“I am confident that both the BJP and JD(S) will work cohesively in Karnataka to further strengthen the developmental vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji," Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda, said.
Revanna is expected to contest from his sitting seat, Hassan, as the joint candidate of the BJP-JD(S) alliance. Hassan is the home turf of Deve Gowda. The party has not formally announced the list.
Senior JD(S) leader CS Puttaraju had said earlier that the party’s state president HD Kumaraswamy would enter the fray from the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency.
The BJP, meanwhile, has announced its first list of 20 candidates for the coming elections in Karnataka, which has a total of 28 constituencies. Candidates for the remaining five seats will be announced soon.
The Congress has announced its candidates for 24 Lok Sabha seats.
Karnataka will be voting in the Lok Sabha elections in two phases on April 26 and May 7.
The BJP swept the 2019 general elections in Karnataka, winning 25 out of the 28 seats in the state. An independent backed by the party also won. The Congress and JD(S), which fought the elections together, secured one seat each.
