New Delhi, Apr 03, 2024: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is ‘losing weight fast’, sources in the Aam Aadmi Party said on Wednesday, adding that he has lost four kilograms after his arrested. A source said that both family and party are worried due to his deteriorating health.
AAP sources further said that doctors have expressed concern with his ‘rapid weight loss’. “If something happens to Arvind Kejriwal, the whole country, and even God will not forgive them (an apparent attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party),” said Delhi minister Atishi.
Delhi CM’s health update comes hours before the Delhi high court is set to hear his plea challenging his arrest and remand of trial court.
Arvind Kejriwal was held by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy 2021-22.
A report in Hindustan Times on March 27 had quoted a party leader, who did not wish to be named: “CM Arvind Kejriwal’s sugar level is continuously fluctuating and has dropped to 46. Doctors say that it is very dangerous for sugar levels to go so low.”
Sunita Kejriwal, chief minister’s wife, had also shared details on his health and said that he has diabetes, and though his sugar levels are irregular, his determination is strong.
Sources in the ED said Kejriwal was taken care of while in custody. “We assigned a team to monitor his health and his diet requirements. His sugar level was monitored daily and it was fine with the medical team. He was in good health. The custodial interrogation was also limited, based on daily requirements of the investigation. We had kept everything he needed. There were candies and other food items as advised by the medical team,” said a senior officer.
Some reports stated that the Delhi CM, locked in Tihar jail, is allowed to have home-cooked food in lunch and dinner and it will be served daily, till his sugar level comes to normal.A prison official said that Kejriwal paced up and down his 14X8 feet cell on his first night in Tihar jail, managing only to sleep for a while.
