Driver slits Hindu doctor’s throat in Pakistan, arrested

Hyderabad, Mar 09, 2023: A doctor from Pakistan’s Hyderabad, Dharam Dev Raathi, was allegedly killed by his driver inside his house on Tuesday. Police told Pakistan’s news outlet The Nation that the driver slit the doctor’s throat with a knife.

 

Police arrested the accused driver on Wednesday at his home in Khairpur. The accused has been identified as Hanif Leghari.

The doctor’s cook told the police that the two had an altercation on their way home. After reaching there, the driver took a knife from inside the kitchen and killed the doctor inside his own house.

The driver then fled from the spot in the doctor’s car.

Dr Dharam Dev Raathi was a famous dermatologist in the Hyderabad area, said a report by The Nation.

Pakistan’s Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Giyan Chand Essarani praised the police for arresting the suspect within 24 hours. He also assured the slain doctor’s family that justice will be delivered.

The Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) women’s wing chief Faryal Talpur condemned the murder and called the incident "heartbreaking". She also assured the doctor’s family that there will be justice.

She added that the incident was distressing, especially at a time when the Hindu community was celebrating Holi.
