New Delhi, Feb 20, 2022: Uttar Pradesh recorded a voter turnout of 60.1 per cent while Punjab reported 64.3 per cent in the third phase of the Assembly elections.
According to the Election Commission of India, in Uttar Pradesh, Etah witnessed the highest voter turnout of 42.24 per cent followed by Lalitpur (42.12 per cent) and Manpuri (41.14 per cent) till 1 pm.
Kanpur Nagar recorded the lowest percentage of voter turnout of 28.50 per cent. Further, Jhansi saw 32.83 per cent voter turnout.
Fifty-nine constituencies spread across 16 districts in Uttar Pradesh are voting today in the third phase of polling. Congress-ruled Punjab will also vote today. Polling in Punjab will be held from 8 am to 6 pm. In UP, it will be from 7 am and 6 pm.
The Samajwadi Party today alleged discrepancies in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) during the third phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh. The party claims that the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) issued a slip of the BJP even when their leader had cast a vote for Samajwadi.
The Election Commission said that they found the complaint baseless.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is contesting from the Karhal assembly seat, which will also go to polls today. The BJP has fielded Union minister S P Singh Baghel from the seat.
Counting of votes in both the states, along with Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, will take place on March 10.
