Bengaluru, Dec 19, 2016, DHNS: The murder of a young woman lawyer in Mahalakshmi Layout, north Bengaluru, on Saturday evening was committed by her former boyfriend, police said.
Madhu was furious that Jyothi, 26, his girlfriend from school days, walked out on him after she became a lawyer. Madhu and Jyothi had studied together in Kanakapura, where their friendship blossomed and they started dating. Jyothi went on to study law and moved to Bengaluru. She started working with a senior lawyer in Mahalakshmi Layout and stayed at a paying guest accommodation near ESI Hospital in Rajajinagar, a senior police officer, who is part of the investigation, said.
Madhu, too, finished his studies and unsuccessfully tried to get a government job.Recently, he landed the job of a bus conductor with the BMTC and moved to Bengaluru.
The couple met again, but Madhu noticed a clear change in Jyothi’s behaviour. She was avoiding him. When Madhu confronted her, she asked him to stay away from her, saying she wanted to focus on her law career, the officer said.
Madhu vowed to teach her “a lesson” and planned to murder her with the help of his friend, Shivaramu, who works as a cab driver. The duo had been watching Jyothi for the past few days. On Saturday, around 6.45 am, as Jyothi alighted from a BMTC bus in
Mahalakshmi Layout, Madhu accosted her and had an angry argument with her.
Jyothi ignored him and kept walking. In a fit of rage, Madhu pounced on her, stabbed her repeatedly and then slashed her throat. As a bleeding Jyothi screamed for help, Madhu and Shivaramu ran helter-skelter. Her screams drew members of the public. They chased Shivaramu down as tripped and fell over. Madhu managed to escape. The officer said four special police teams were hunting for Madhu.
