New Delhi, Jan 14: India has formally lodged a strong protest with Pakistan on Monday over the beheading of an Indian soldier at Poonch by Pakistani troops. During a Brigadier-level flag meeting that concluded at Chakan-Da-Bagh in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, India also asked Pakistan to respect the ceasefire that the two nations have mutually agreed upon.

Before the meet, the Indian Army Chief General Bikram Singh had warned Pakistan of a "measured retaliation" against the attack on Indian army posts and soldiers.

"I expect my commanders to be aggressive and offensive in the face of firing. We will retaliate to Pakistan’s attack at a place and time of our choosing," Singh said.

Two Indian soldiers - Lance Naik Hemraj Singh and Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh - were killed on the border in Poonch by the Pakistani troops on January 8, an attack which has resulted in the outbreak of one of the worst violence across the India-Pakistan border since the two neighbours declared ceasefire.
