Former CM Shurhozelie Liezietsu wins Nagaland by-elections

Kohima, Aug 03, 2017: Results of Nagaland by-election 2017, which were held on Saturday July 29, are out. Former state Chief Minister Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, who contested the by-polls on Naga People’s Front (NPF)’s ticket, has won the elections by 8038 votes.

The counting votes for Nagaland by-election of the Northern Angami-I Assembly Constituency commenced at 8 am. The voter turnout was 78.55 percent. According to Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Abhijit Sinha, a total of 12,752 voters, out of 16,235 voters, cast their votes in the by-elections of the Northern Angami-I Assembly Constituency,

The main contest was between Dr Liezietsu and Independent candidate Kekhrie Yhome, who’s backed by the TR Zeliang faction of the Naga People’s Front (NPF). The by-election was necessitated sitting MLA Khriehu Liezietsu resigned on May 24. This resulted in his father Dr Liezietsu to get elected as a member of the Nagaland State Assembly.

Former Chief Minister Dr Liezietsu has won the elections. A total of 63.40 per cent (8038 votes) people polled in his favour.

Independent candidate Yhome received 36.03 per cent or 4568 votes in his favour.


NPF’s Dr Liezietsu has secured a massive lead with 8038 votes or 63.40%, as per the latest update.
