Belagavi, Feb 16, 2025: Former Goa MLA Lavoo Mamledar (68) passed away on Saturday in Belagavi after an alleged road rage incident involving an autorickshaw driver turned fatal. The accused, Amirsuhil Shakilsab Sanadi (26), has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

The incident occurred in the Khade Bazaar area when Mamledar’s car reportedly grazed an autorickshaw, sparking a heated argument. According to Belagavi Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Rohan Jagadeesh, the auto driver demanded compensation for the damage, which Mamledar declined. The dispute escalated, with the driver allegedly slapping the former MLA multiple times despite efforts by bystanders to intervene.

Following the altercation, Mamledar walked to his lodge in Khade Bazaar but collapsed at the reception area. He was rushed to the civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

CCTV footage corroborated eyewitness accounts, showing the altercation and Mamledar’s attempts to defuse the situation before being assaulted. The lodge owner also confirmed these details.

Mamledar, who served as the MLA for Goa’s Ponda constituency from 2012 to 2017, was elected on a Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party ticket. He is survived by his wife and two children. His daughter arrived in Belagavi soon after the incident, and his body was transported to Goa late Saturday following a post-mortem examination. The funeral is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the family crematorium in Ponda.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed condolences and assured a thorough investigation. "The state administration is in close coordination with local authorities in Belagavi to ensure the circumstances surrounding the incident are fully examined and justice is served," he said.
