11 May 2018:Former Mumbai top cop Himanshu Roy shot himself dead in the afternoon today, according to reports.
He was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
He was reportedly suffering from cancer. However, the cause of his suicide isn’t known yet. He had gone on a long leave on medical grounds.
Roy was involved in several high-profile cases, including the 2013 IPL spot-fixing case.
Roy, a former student of Campion and St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, was the son of a doctor, and took up medicine after 12th, before leaving it for CA.
But he eventually appeared the IPS exam and joined the force.
His first posting came in 1991, when he was deployed in Malegaon. The region was then tense in the aftermath of the Babri Masjid demolition.
