Davanagere, Dec 15, 2014: Four persons were killed and 16 grievously injured on Sunday evening when the private bus they were travelling in plunged into Sulekere lake in Channagiri taluk of Davanagere district.
The tragedy occurred near Kerebilachi village, 45 km from Davanagere. Amareshwara, the private bus plying from Davanagere to Bhadravathi via Channagiri, was carrying more than 45 passengers. Eyewitnesses said the driver lost control of the bus while negotiating a curve near Siddeshwara temple and the vehicle overturned thrice before falling into the lake.
Two of the deceased are Mahadeva, 47, a resident of Ranebennur, and Vijayamma, 35, from Diggenahalli in Channagiri taluk. Two more are yet to be identified. All the injured have been shifted to government hospitals at Channagiri and Davanagere. The critically injured are at the district hospital in Davanagere.
Passengers blamed the driver’s recklessness for the accident.
