New Delhi, Nov. 16: In a brutal reminder of the December 16 gang rape and murder of a paramedical student in Delhi, a 30-year-old woman from Assam was reportedly gang-raped and a wooden stick inserted in her private parts in west Delhi’s Mundka village.

The incident serves as a disturbing reminder of the 2012 Delhi gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old medical student, which caused mass outrage across India

The police said the incident took place on November 8 when four inebriated men, all neighbours of the woman, reportedly barged into her house when she was cooking. The woman, who is a widow, has been admitted to Babu Jagjivan Ram hospital, where she is said to be out of danger. Police have arrested all the four accused persons from their residence. They were produced before court and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

Investigation has revealed that the victim was living with a person identified as Pawan for the past several months. The accused persons were reportedly not happy with her relationship with the man and had argued with her over this matter in the past too.

Police said on November 8 the victim was cooking in her house when the four accused, all daily wagers, barged into her home and started abusing her. When the victim objected to it and asked them to leave her house, the accused started beating up the woman. "After beating her up, they gang-raped her. And then they inserted a wooden stick in her private parts when she screamed for help," the officer added.

Police said the accused threatened her with dire consequences if she informed anyone about the matter and escaped from the spot. "The incident came to light when some passers-by heard the screams of the victim and they raised an alarm. The police were alerted and they took the victim to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital first. She was later referred to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital," a police office said.

The woman has now been discharged from the hospital after six days and her counselling has begun, the police said.

On the basis of the complaint filed by the woman, the police have registered a case under sections 376-D (gang rape), 506 (threatening), 452 (trespass) and other appropriate sections of IPC at Mundka police station in West Delhi.
