New Delhi, Jun 03, 2021: The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has found the Gautam Gambhir Foundation guilty of unauthorisedly stocking, procuring and distributing Fabiflu medicine to COVID-19 patients, the Delhi High Court was informed on Thursday.
The DCGI was submitting a new report to the court after it was reprimanded for giving a clean chit to Gambhir’s foundation earlier. The Drugs Controller submitted that action would be taken without delay against the organisation, drug dealers as also in other such cases which would be brought to its notice.
AAP MLA Praveen Kumar has also been found guilty of similar offences under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, the court was informed.
Earlier in the case related to the hoarding of medicines, the Delhi High Court had dismissed the DCGI’s earlier reports, giving clean chits to Gambhir and Kumar. The division bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh had ordered a fresh report and investigation on Monday.
However, the court was satisfied with the Drugs Controller report filed for another AAP MLA Preeti Tomar. The same division bench had earlier ordered the controller to conduct an investigation against her as well under similar charges.
On Thursday, the Drugs Controller was asked to file status reports on further progress in these cases within six weeks by the court. The matter has been listed for hearing on July 29.
The court proceedings follow a PIL which questioned how the politicians were able to procure huge quantities of certain medicines - required for treatment of Covid-19 - and distribute them when patients and medical stores were facing their acute shortages.
