New Delhi, March 01: Just two months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, former Army chief General VK Singh made his foray into politics as he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday.
General Singh paid respects at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate from where he marched to the BJP headquarters in central Delhi for his official induction.
It is likely that the former Army chief may contest the Lok Sabha election wither from Haryana or Rajasthan.
After joining the BJP, he said," I thank Rajnath Singh and all the officers who came with me."
Party chief Rajnath Singh who welcomed General Singh slammed the UPA government for its attitude towards defence forces. He accused the Centre of not giving enough attention to the needs of the Defence. He said, "My heart pains when I hear about any soldier’s death. Our soldiers haven’t got the attention they deserve."
"There is a need for modernisation of our forces but it wasn’t given the importance it deserves," he added.
His induction into the BJP comes a day after he filed a legal notice against Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde accusing him of not acting against individuals who accused him of leading a mutiny in Delhi in 2012.
